STEPS
1 | Initial consultation with an Xpressive Interiors designer
We meet with you in your home for a collaborative client and designer dialogue. We will discuss details such as your goals for the space, your design aesthetic, how you will be using the space, what inspires you, your time-frame for completion, and your budget. With our designers, as soon as they walk into a space, their wheels start to turn and they are encouraged to throw out ideas and really dig in!
2 | Proposal, project scope and design fees
Now that it has been decided that we are a great fit, we draw up a proposal that outlines the scope of work for the design portion of the project, the estimated design fee, the advance on our design fee required to get started and all legalities that come with the process. We have our second in home meeting and go through the documentation step by step with you, so you feel comfortable in signing the contracts and proposals. We encourage our clients to ask as many questions as they need in this meeting. It is a big step and we want you to feel good and be excited about your design journey!
3 | Measure-up and autoCAD
For this phase, we take detailed measurements and photos needed to start the design process. We then transfer those measurements into AutoCAD (computer-aided drafting software) and create your existing floorplans. This gives us our starting point for space planning!
4 | Discovery
In order to be able to space plan efficiently, the discovery phase is imperative. This is where we gather our information. Here we will discuss and explore your daily routines, how you will use your spaces, what you would like to improve or change in your home and the overall feeling you want have every time you walk into your space. How you use it is just as important as how it makes you feel! We will ask important questions such as; how many people does your sofa need to sit, would you like double ovens or a cooktop, a standard showerhead or handheld. Design is in the details and here we discuss exactly what those are when it comes to the functionality and aesthetics of your spaces.
5 | Schematics and space planning
This is our creative phase! During this process we use all our information gathered in the discovery phase and implement it to create a unique design specifically for you. We develop multiple rough sketches of our proposed new designs and present them to you. Any necessary revisions are made until you are happy with your layouts! Once approved, we begin the design documentation and build a set of construction plans.
6 | Sourcing and showrooms
Now that we have the floorplans finalized we begin to get into the aesthetics of the spaces. Here we will choose fixtures, tile, flooring, appliances, paint color, cabinetry styles and more! There are multiple ways to approach this phase and we feel it is specific to each client. Some of you will want to visit showrooms and some of you might get overwhelmed at the amount of options there are out there or might not have the time to do so in your busy schedules. Everyone is different and we approach this phase as so. If you want to visit showrooms, great! We have amazing vendors that specialize in each element of fixtures, furniture and equipment. If not, we will select narrow down options for you to choose from and simplify the process.
7 | Contractor and permits
Once all items are selected we hire on our contractor that will carry out the construction phase and submit plans to the city, if they are required.
8 | Product procurement and project management
Here we order all item selections, track orders, access lead times and initiate follow ups with our vendors. We create a budget tracker and schedule custom to your project so you always know when and why things are happening.
9 | Construction
At Xpressive Interiors we pride ourselves on being hands-on in the construction phase. We make frequent site visits to ensure our designs are being implemented as intended. We make ourselves readily available to the sub-contractors and contractors for any questions, change orders or revisions that may arise. We believe in seeing a project through from beginning to end but ESPECIALLY in the middle. Constant communication with our team is key!
10 | Furniture, styling and photos
After all the construction and finish is complete we move furniture in, style your spaces and hold our “after” photo shoot.
11 | The big reveal
This is our absolute favorite part of a project. Seeing how your space has come to life and walking through the final transformation with you. This is where we hug, we might get misty eyed, pop the champagne and toast to an amazing design journey!
12 | Final walk-though and our “until next time”
We provide a project binder of all information and documentation that went into completing your project. We present that to you, along with copies of the before and after photos, so you can show them off to your friends. We complete our final walk-though at this time as well as thank you again for giving us the opportunity to work with you. We leave you to enjoy your new spaces and we sign off with an “until next time”!
